The Bronco Buster by Frederic Remington original bronze sculpture was made in the summer of 1895 and remained the most popular sculpture made by this artist.  Frederic Remington (1861-1909) was a sculpture, illustrator and painter that specialized in portraying the American Old West depicting cowboys, settlers, native American tribes, soldiers and wildlife in mainly action scenes.  The bronze sculpture of the Bronco Buster was his first three dimensional work of art portraying a rugged Western frontier cowboy fighting to stay on a wild bronco that wants to get him off, with a stirrup swinging free, a short whip in one hand and a fistful of the horse's mane and reins in the other. Or best offer Saint Barbara was an early Christian martyr worshiped by mainly Catholics who face danger of sudden and violent death at work.  She is the patron saint of artillery and explosives professions, armorers and gunsmiths, military engineers, miners and tunnelers.  This statue of Saint Barbara features the main items associated with her story: the three windowed tower, a cannon and a branch. This statue of Saint Barbara is one of two known to be made as a special commissioned work for the Czech Skoda company.  Skoda started in 1859 as an arms manufacturing company, later a producer of bicycles, motorcycles, cars and trucks.  During World War 2 and Nazi Germany's occupation of Czechoslovakia, the Skoda factory was under control of Reichswerke Hermann Göring and served as producers of artillery parts, aircraft, firearms and ammunition components.  This statue is thought to be presented to the Nazi officers who controlled the company in 1942.  The statue is said to be made of artillery grade metal. The small plaque at the base reads: Skodawerke Pilsen, Kreigsjahr 1942. It is in excellent condition. Beautiful Pompeian Bronze Company Bookends of the "The Sculptor" from 1920's in art deco/nouveau style.  These bookends were made by the Pompeian Bronze Company of Brooklyn, NY during the 1920's.  They copyrighted this set as named "The Sculptor" in 1921.  Each bookend features an ancient Greek style nude figure wearing the traditional cloth and holding a mallet in his right hand. These bookends are made probably of spelter and are in very good condition considering that they are now 100 years old. The Dying Gaul sculpture is an ancient Roman marble statue now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome and it is a copy of a now lost sculpture from the Hellenistic period (323-31 BC) thought to have been made in bronze and may have been commissioned at some time between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Galatians, the Celtic or Gaulish people of parts of Anatolia (modern Turkey).  The original sculptor is believed to have been Epigonus, a court sculptor of the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon.  The sculpture of the Dying Gaul is also called The Dying Gladiator, The Dying Galatian, Galata Morente in Italian. The sculpture is beautiful in details showing the bleeding wound of the gladiator in his right side ribs from a sword, the veins in his arms, his hair and his overall musculature. The Motherland Calls or in literal translation from Russian: Homeland-Mother Is Calling! is a statue of a woman stepping forward with a raised sword representing the Soviet or Russian Motherland calling on its sons and daughters to repulse the enemy and return to the attack.  This Soviet era sculpture which started construction in May 1959 and completed on 15 October 1967 is the compositional center of the monument-ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia.  It was designed by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin, and declared the tallest statue in the world in 1967 when complete.  At 85 m (279 ft), it is the tallest statue in Europe, the tallest outside of Asia and the tallest statue (excluding pedestals) of a woman in the world. This Motherland Calls sculpture by Yevgeny Vuchetich is a beautiful representation of Soviet art with an art nuevo twist.
