The Dying Gaul sculpture is an ancient Roman marble statue now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome and it is a copy of a now lost sculpture from the Hellenistic period (323-31 BC) thought to have been made in bronze and may have been commissioned at some time between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Galatians, the Celtic or Gaulish people of parts of Anatolia (modern Turkey).  The original sculptor is believed to have been Epigonus, a court sculptor of the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon.  The sculpture of the Dying Gaul is also called The Dying Gladiator, The Dying Galatian, Galata Morente in Italian. These bookends are made probably of spelter and are in very good condition considering that they are now 100 years old. The Knight of Verona is a gilded bronze sculpture of "Cangrande I della Scalla", an Italian nobleman, belonging to the della Scala family which ruled Verona from 1308 until 1387.  Della Scalla was an acclaimed warrior and autocrat becoming sole ruler of Verona in 1311 to his death in 1329.  The Knight of Verona statue features Cangrande with his helmet, armor and drawn sword on his horse which is draped in cloth on a marble base.  The sculpture was made by Hans Muller of Austria (1873-1937) and signed, famous for his bronze sculptures of famous individuals as well as everyday life.  The original statue is currently at the Castelvecchio castle, in Verona, Italy.
