A French Napoleonic soldier sitting on a bench with his wife helping her spin or wind yarn.  The title of this sculpture is Pris au Piege which translates to “trapped” as the soldier clearly is with his hands spun with yarn.  This work was made by Geo Maxim probably in the 1920’s in the art nouveu style of the time, made of patinated zamak alloy and a base made of onyx.

Or best offer November 4th is celebrated and commemorated in Italy as the end of World War 1, the day of Armistice at Villa Giusti.  Italy lost in WW1 over 500,000 soldiers.  This rare bronze plaque was sculpted by one of Milan's most famous sculptures in the early to mid 20th century: Egidio Boninsegna.  The memorial plaque depicts an angel carrying to a tomb a half-draped male soldier accompanies by his mourning wife and two children bidding him a final farewell and another man holding the ends of the drape.  Both the angel and the fallen soldier show deep, hollowed-out eyes, indicating the suffering and grief caused by the war. The angel is sitting on a slab with the writing Ignoto Militi, the unknown soldier.  In the background is a great memorial tomb complete with fluted columns and another frieze of mourning figures.  The artist Egidio Boninsegna is best known for the creation of numerous tombs for the Monumental Cemetery and the Musocco Cemetery in Milan. He also sculpted the monument dedicated to the Milanese painter Filippo Carcano in 1915. This November 4th Italian memorial cast bronze plaque is rare in this excellent condition.  It is fastened to a heavy wooden frame. Warsaw Ghetto is a cast bronze brutalist style sculpture by Kenneth Treister, architect of the Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach in Florida.  The sculpture is a depiction of the famous photograph in which the last surviving Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising were taken out of a bunker and surrendered to the Nazi troops.  The Warsaw Ghetto uprising occurred from the 19th of April to the 16th of May 1943, in which about 13,000 Jews were killed and German casualties were 150.  The photograph has been one of the most iconic depicting the Holocaust and one of the most influential in the 20th century. This Warsaw Ghetto sculpture by Kenneth Treister is of the first and original batch of bronze plaques signed in the back and is 122/150 made on August 1969. A unique item from the Vietnam war era featuring a Laotian woman bronze bust sculpture made by Nguyen Thanh Le that was presented as a gift in September 1969 to Brigadier General Homer K. Hansen by Major General Tran Van Minh, commander of the VNAF (South Vietnam Air Force).  Nguyen Thanh Le was a Vietnamese artisan, graduate of the Bien Hoa Fine Arts School, who sold her sculptures and other works of art to mainly military personnel from a shop on Thu Do Street in the former Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City.  These works later found their way to the US and France as military personnel went back home. This Laotian woman bust of a young woman shows her beautiful features, unique hair style and ornate earrings. The Knight of Verona is a gilded bronze sculpture of "Cangrande I della Scalla", an Italian nobleman, belonging to the della Scala family which ruled Verona from 1308 until 1387.  Della Scalla was an acclaimed warrior and autocrat becoming sole ruler of Verona in 1311 to his death in 1329.  The Knight of Verona statue features Cangrande with his helmet, armor and drawn sword on his horse which is draped in cloth on a marble base.  The sculpture was made by Hans Muller of Austria (1873-1937) and signed, famous for his bronze sculptures of famous individuals as well as everyday life.  The original statue is currently at the Castelvecchio castle, in Verona, Italy.
