A French Napoleonic soldier sitting on a bench with his wife helping her spin or wind yarn.  The title of this sculpture is Pris au Piege which translates to “trapped” as the soldier clearly is with his hands spun with yarn.  This work was made by Geo Maxim probably in the 1920’s in the art nouveu style of the time, made of patinated zamak alloy and a base made of onyx.

The Liberator sculpture by Yevgeny Vuchetich, featuring the idealistic Soviet liberator warrior with his sword pointed to the ground symbolizing the end of combat, holding in his other arm a baby girl symbolizing the future, and stepping on a broken swastika symbolizing the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Liberator statue is located in the central monument at the Soviet WW II Cemetery and Memorial in Berlin-Treptow, Germany.  Almost 5000 soldiers and officers who died during the battles for Berlin are buried next to the bulk mound. The Motherland Calls or in literal translation from Russian: Homeland-Mother Is Calling! is a statue of a woman stepping forward with a raised sword representing the Soviet or Russian Motherland calling on its sons and daughters to repulse the enemy and return to the attack.  This Soviet era sculpture which started construction in May 1959 and completed on 15 October 1967 is the compositional center of the monument-ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia.  It was designed by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and structural engineer Nikolai Nikitin, and declared the tallest statue in the world in 1967 when complete.  At 85 m (279 ft), it is the tallest statue in Europe, the tallest outside of Asia and the tallest statue (excluding pedestals) of a woman in the world. This Motherland Calls sculpture by Yevgeny Vuchetich is a beautiful representation of Soviet art with an art nuevo twist. A unique item from the Vietnam war era featuring a Laotian woman bronze bust sculpture made by Nguyen Thanh Le that was presented as a gift in September 1969 to Brigadier General Homer K. Hansen by Major General Tran Van Minh, commander of the VNAF (South Vietnam Air Force).  Nguyen Thanh Le was a Vietnamese artisan, graduate of the Bien Hoa Fine Arts School, who sold her sculptures and other works of art to mainly military personnel from a shop on Thu Do Street in the former Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City.  These works later found their way to the US and France as military personnel went back home. This Laotian woman bust of a young woman shows her beautiful features, unique hair style and ornate earrings.
