A unique collectible from the Victorian era in England.  This is an Elliot Brothers charting instruments set in a mahogany wood box which belonged to G.B. Chalon.  His name appears on a small plaque on the box and on some of the instruments inside.  The instrument set which was used either for nautical map charting, mathematics or engineering drawing includes what we think are all of the original items with a lift out tray.  This charting set includes ivory handles on some of the instruments especially the protractor (ruler) which is all in ivory.  The ivory protractor, marked: Elliot 449 Strand London, is therefore presumably made after the company moved to their Strand St. location in about 1867.  The two slots in the protractor were for a ribbon so that the naval officer or other user could wear it round his neck. This is a fantastic antique Victorian era collectible for those who love scientific or nautical/naval/maritime items. Dimension: 19 cm x 9.5 cm (7.48 inches x 3.74 inches)

L'Armurier or The Arm's Maker by Henryk Kossowski Jr. is a beautiful French bronze sculpture depicting a swordsmith inspecting his work and wondering about its quality.  The statue is beautifully cast and detailed as were many of the works done at the Siot-Decauville and sculpted by Henryk Kossowski Jr. who was active during the years of 1880-1915.  This swordsmith sculpture is featured in the book “Bronzes: Sculptors and Founders, Vol. II“ on page 379, where it is identified as “L'Armurier“ or “The Arm's Maker“. It is bronze with golden gild and shown with the edge of his work bench and clamp beside his leg.  The sword itself is in tact, which in many cases is either broken or missing. The sculpture is signed by the artist in the base "H. Kossowski" and marked by the Siot-Decauville foundry "II 251". Dimensions: Height: 33 cm (13 inches) Width: 12 cm (4.7 inches) Weight: 2.9 Kg (6.4 lbs.)

Gaulois by Adolphe Jean Lavergne bronze sculpture of ancient Celtic warrior.  This bronze sculpture of a Gaul warrior, features the Celtic fighter with his helmet, holding his sword in one hand and a leaf in another, axe hanging from his belt and a fur garment covering his groin.  A beautiful depiction of this ancient French Celtic warrior by French sculptor Adolphe Jean Lavergne (1852-1901).  This warrior might be a depiction of Vercingetorix (80 – 46 BC) the Gallic king and chieftain of the Arverni tribe who united the Gauls in a failed revolt against Roman forces during the last phase of Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars.  After surrendering to Caesar and spending almost six years in prison, he was executed in Rome. A unique item from the Vietnam war era featuring a Laotian woman bronze bust sculpture made by Nguyen Thanh Le that was presented as a gift in September 1969 to Brigadier General Homer K. Hansen by Major General Tran Van Minh, commander of the VNAF (South Vietnam Air Force).  Nguyen Thanh Le was a Vietnamese artisan, graduate of the Bien Hoa Fine Arts School, who sold her sculptures and other works of art to mainly military personnel from a shop on Thu Do Street in the former Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City.  These works later found their way to the US and France as military personnel went back home. This Laotian woman bust of a young woman shows her beautiful features, unique hair style and ornate earrings. The Dying Gaul sculpture is an ancient Roman marble statue now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome and it is a copy of a now lost sculpture from the Hellenistic period (323-31 BC) thought to have been made in bronze and may have been commissioned at some time between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Galatians, the Celtic or Gaulish people of parts of Anatolia (modern Turkey).  The original sculptor is believed to have been Epigonus, a court sculptor of the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon.  The sculpture of the Dying Gaul is also called The Dying Gladiator, The Dying Galatian, Galata Morente in Italian. The sculpture is beautiful in details showing the bleeding wound of the gladiator in his right side ribs from a sword, the veins in his arms, his hair and his overall musculature. The base features an inscription: "Galata Morente/After Pietro Angeletti/1758-1786" Dimensions: Height: 31 cm / 12.20 inches Width: 60 cm / 23.62 inches Weight: 11.9 Kg / 26.23 lbs.

Or best offer November 4th is celebrated and commemorated in Italy as the end of World War 1, the day of Armistice at Villa Giusti.  Italy lost in WW1 over 500,000 soldiers.  This rare bronze plaque was sculpted by one of Milan's most famous sculptures in the early to mid 20th century: Egidio Boninsegna.  The memorial plaque depicts an angel carrying to a tomb a half-draped male soldier accompanies by his mourning wife and two children bidding him a final farewell and another man holding the ends of the drape.  Both the angel and the fallen soldier show deep, hollowed-out eyes, indicating the suffering and grief caused by the war. The angel is sitting on a slab with the writing Ignoto Militi, the unknown soldier.  In the background is a great memorial tomb complete with fluted columns and another frieze of mourning figures.  The artist Egidio Boninsegna is best known for the creation of numerous tombs for the Monumental Cemetery and the Musocco Cemetery in Milan. He also sculpted the monument dedicated to the Milanese painter Filippo Carcano in 1915. This November 4th Italian memorial cast bronze plaque is rare in this excellent condition.  It is fastened to a heavy wooden frame.
