Ottoman Artillery Cannon Brass Coat of Arms

An Ottoman artillery cannon brass coat of arms with the Turkish tughra of either Sultan Mehmed V (reign: 1909-1918) or Sultan Mehmed VI, the last Sultan of the Ottoman empire, ruling from 1918 t0 1922 when the Ottoman empire was dissolved and the Republic of Turkey was established.

The tughra is a calligraphic monogram, seal or signature of a sultan that was affixed to all official documents and items such as coinage.  Each Sultan had his own tughra which was designed during the beginning of his reign by his court calligrapher.

This brass coat of arms or crest was affixed to an artillery canon and is now secured to a wooden base with eight brass pins.  The crest is intricately made featuring flags, spears, swords, revolvers, books, flowers and a shield in the center.

A German brass plaque featuring a crew of three soldiers operating the Schwarzlose or Maschinengewehr 08/MG 08 Machine Gun. The plaque in German: Erinnerung a.d. Dienstzeit translating to "In memory of the years in service" and dated 1935. The Schwarzlose M. 7 was designed by the Prussian firearms designer Andreas Wilhelm Schwarzlose in 1904, and used in service between 1908 to a bit after 1945.  The a Schwarzlose is a belt-fed machine gun, usually mounted on a tripod, and used by the Austro-Hungarian empire and later Germany, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Sweden, Russia and in some colonial conflicts. Or best offer November 4th is celebrated and commemorated in Italy as the end of World War 1, the day of Armistice at Villa Giusti.  Italy lost in WW1 over 500,000 soldiers.  This rare bronze plaque was sculpted by one of Milan's most famous sculptures in the early to mid 20th century: Egidio Boninsegna.  The memorial plaque depicts an angel carrying to a tomb a half-draped male soldier accompanies by his mourning wife and two children bidding him a final farewell and another man holding the ends of the drape.  Both the angel and the fallen soldier show deep, hollowed-out eyes, indicating the suffering and grief caused by the war. The angel is sitting on a slab with the writing Ignoto Militi, the unknown soldier.  In the background is a great memorial tomb complete with fluted columns and another frieze of mourning figures.  The artist Egidio Boninsegna is best known for the creation of numerous tombs for the Monumental Cemetery and the Musocco Cemetery in Milan. He also sculpted the monument dedicated to the Milanese painter Filippo Carcano in 1915. This November 4th Italian memorial cast bronze plaque is rare in this excellent condition.  It is fastened to a heavy wooden frame. A fine example of the famous Omani Al Saidi or Royal style Khanjar.  This is a traditional Omani khanjar dagger with a dual edged blade and distinct central rib, fine silver filigree throughout the handle and scabbard and floral bands.  The hilt is probably made of horn and wrapped with the classical Saidi silver filigree panels.  The legend of the Royal style is that the Persian wife of Sayyid Said bin Sultan (1791-1856), the last ruler of the united Omani Empire, was bored with the classical shape of the Omani Khanjar and designed this J shaped style as a present for her husband, hence the “Royal” title of this Omani khanjar.  The back of the scabbard is a brownish velvet.  This Omani Al Saidi khanjar is made probably during the mid 20th century. British Royal Infantry Officer’s Sword Pattern 1822

This is a rare British 1822 pattern sword from the short reign of King George IV (1820-1830) as can be seen in the royal emblem on the guard.  It is made with the distinctive Gothic hilt with fold down guard and a grip of fishskin wrapped with brass twisted wire.  These swords tend to be more delicate than other models with the folding down guard usually broken or missing.  The maker, Salter was the main sword manufacturer of that time, the blade etched with King George the Forth's emblem or crest.  This is one of the earliest pattern 1822 swords. This British royal infantry officer’s sword pattern 1822 from the reign of King George IV is in overall good condition with a slightly stained blade and in tact leather scabbard. Or best offer Saint Barbara was an early Christian martyr worshiped by mainly Catholics who face danger of sudden and violent death at work.  She is the patron saint of artillery and explosives professions, armorers and gunsmiths, military engineers, miners and tunnelers.  This statue of Saint Barbara features the main items associated with her story: the three windowed tower, a cannon and a branch. This statue of Saint Barbara is one of two known to be made as a special commissioned work for the Czech Skoda company.  Skoda started in 1859 as an arms manufacturing company, later a producer of bicycles, motorcycles, cars and trucks.  During World War 2 and Nazi Germany's occupation of Czechoslovakia, the Skoda factory was under control of Reichswerke Hermann Göring and served as producers of artillery parts, aircraft, firearms and ammunition components.  This statue is thought to be presented to the Nazi officers who controlled the company in 1942.  The statue is said to be made of artillery grade metal. The small plaque at the base reads: Skodawerke Pilsen, Kreigsjahr 1942. It is in excellent condition.
