Decorative Indonesian Kris Dagger

An Indonesian kris dagger with golden decorations and jem-like stones in the hilt-to-blade section.  The wood is beautiful and the typical wavy kris blade shows the iron forging techniques making these daggers so famous.  We suspect that the blade is much older than the hilt and scabbard, probably from the early to mid 20th century.

An authentic Moro Kris short sword from the Southern Philippines.  The Moro Kris is a rugged fighting blade that was mostly used in the Mindanao area of the Philippines.  The hilt, scabbard and blade are decorated with copper or brass decorations and the blade features a serpent or dragon like design.   The Moro people or actually Bangsamoro people, refers to the 13 Islamized ethnolinguistic groups of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan regoins.  The Moro fought against the Spanish invaders in the early 1500's using these short swords but the design of the blade itself is actually from pre Islamic influence era.  The wavy blade symbolizes the Naga; a mythical serpentine dragon that was worshipped in the animistic days of Malay history.

A characteristic Kris dagger from the island of JAVA in Indonesia.  This kris dagger is dated to about 1870-1890 and is a typical Java Island style with the wavy blade showing the metal grain made of a mixture of meteor iron and forged by folding the metal dozens and even hundreds of times, similar to the technique that Japanese Samurai Katana swords were made in.  This authentic 19th century kris comes with the original carved wood hilt and beautiful wood scabbard that has been overlaid in embossed brass.  The hilt-to-blade fitting is made of copper or brass with some jem-like rocks. This katar has the characteristic V-shaped blade and H-shaped handles.  It is made of steel and silver on the scabbard which is usually hard to find.  It was made around the 1920's or a bit before. Maine Memorial Brass Plaque commemorates the explosion and sinking of the ship in Havana harbor, Cuba, at 9:40 on the evening of February 15, 1898 causing the deaths of 250 out of 355 sailors on board.  It is this incident that triggered the Spanish-American war that spread from the Caribbean to the Philippines ending up in American dominance over those regions. USS Maine memorial brass plaque features the following writing and markings: "In Memoriam / U.S.S. Maine / Destroyed in Havana Harbor / February 15th 1898 / This tablet is cast from metal recovered from the U.S.S. Maine." The lower right corner is stamped "© C. KECK Sc. / 1913 Cast By / Jno. Williams Inc. / N.Y." The bottom edge is stamped 1305. On the back top left corner: "Tablet No 1305 / Charles Keck, Sculptor / Cast By / Jno Williams Inc. / Bronze Foundry / New York / 1913." As a show of appreciation and admiration for his incredible achievement in the height of the Cold War and the start of the space race, the American Legion decided to present Alan Shepard with this plaque as an award.
