Charleston Rice History Commemorative Plaque

This plaque commemorates the first successful rice planting in the Charleston South Carolina colony in the 1670’s starting the rice growing culture of the South known as Madagascar gold.  The plaque was approved by the Historic Commission of Charleston South Carolina.  The plaque is attached to a thick slice of an olive tree trunk.

This U.S.S. Maine Memorial Brass Plaque commemorates the explosion and sinking of the ship in Havana harbor, Cuba, at 9:40 on the evening of February 15, 1898 causing the deaths of 250 out of 355 sailors on board.  It is this incident that triggered the Spanish-American war that spread from the Caribbean to the Philippines ending up in American dominance over those regions. Or best offer This is a piece of Alan Shepard memorabilia that has not been seen for decades.  It is probably a one of a kind plaque commissioned and presented to astronaut and naval pilot Alan Shepard Jr. for his amazing accomplishment of being the first American and the second human after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagerin to orbit the earth.  On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Mercury-Redstone 3 mission and named his spacecraft, Mercury Spacecraft 7, Freedom 7. As a show of appreciation and admiration for his incredible achievement in the height of the Cold War and the start of the space race, the American Legion decided to present Alan Shepard with this plaque as an award. Warsaw Ghetto is a cast bronze brutalist style sculpture by Kenneth Treister, architect of the Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach in Florida.  The sculpture is a depiction of the famous photograph in which the last surviving Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising were taken out of a bunker and surrendered to the Nazi troops.  The Warsaw Ghetto uprising occurred from the 19th of April to the 16th of May 1943, in which about 13,000 Jews were killed and German casualties were 150.  The photograph has been one of the most iconic depicting the Holocaust and one of the most influential in the 20th century. This Warsaw Ghetto sculpture by Kenneth Treister is of the first and original batch of bronze plaques signed in the back and is 122/150 made on August 1969. An authentic Moro Kris short sword from the Southern Philippines.  The Moro Kris is a rugged fighting blade that was mostly used in the Mindanao area of the Philippines.  The hilt, scabbard and blade are decorated with copper or brass decorations and the blade features a serpent or dragon like design.   The Moro people or actually Bangsamoro people, refers to the 13 Islamized ethnolinguistic groups of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan regoins.  The Moro fought against the Spanish invaders in the early 1500's using these short swords but the design of the blade itself is actually from pre Islamic influence era.  The wavy blade symbolizes the Naga; a mythical serpentine dragon that was worshipped in the animistic days of Malay history.

Israeli Lee Enfield long branch No.4 MK1 T rifle scope made by Goldberg of Tel-Aviv.  This is one of the first prototypes of Israeli made rifle scope made in the late 1940's and early 1950's as Israel planned to self rely on as much weapons and weapon related material as possible and in addition smuggle and later import military surplus firearms from post WW2 Europe.  This Israeli rifle scope is made of brass and includes the original rifle mount.  The outside of the scope has patches of scratched paint, the lenses are in tact and a bit foggy and the reticle is in tact as well.  A rare and unique piece of history.

Or best offer November 4th is celebrated and commemorated in Italy as the end of World War 1, the day of Armistice at Villa Giusti.  Italy lost in WW1 over 500,000 soldiers.  This rare bronze plaque was sculpted by one of Milan's most famous sculptures in the early to mid 20th century: Egidio Boninsegna.  The memorial plaque depicts an angel carrying to a tomb a half-draped male soldier accompanies by his mourning wife and two children bidding him a final farewell and another man holding the ends of the drape.  Both the angel and the fallen soldier show deep, hollowed-out eyes, indicating the suffering and grief caused by the war. The angel is sitting on a slab with the writing Ignoto Militi, the unknown soldier.  In the background is a great memorial tomb complete with fluted columns and another frieze of mourning figures.  The artist Egidio Boninsegna is best known for the creation of numerous tombs for the Monumental Cemetery and the Musocco Cemetery in Milan. He also sculpted the monument dedicated to the Milanese painter Filippo Carcano in 1915. This November 4th Italian memorial cast bronze plaque is rare in this excellent condition.  It is fastened to a heavy wooden frame. The Dahlgren bowie knife bayonet is a Civil War era Union US Navy bayonet designed by Admiral John Dahlgren for use with the Plymouth/Whitneyville Model M1861 Rifle, and made by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee Massachusetts.  The Dahlgren Bowie bayonet's new design's intention was to replace the then-standard sword length bayonet with a more maneuverable bayonet for Navy purposes such as close quarters combat in ships, boarding actions, shore landings, and others and for use as either a traditional bayonet or a hand held edged weapon bulky enough to defend against swords and the heavy rifles used at the time. This Dahlgren Navy bowie bayonet is one of only 1800 produced between 1861-1864, and this item is marked as produced in 1862. Comes with an unoriginal scabbard. Markings: On ricasso: Side 1: USN D.R 1862. "D.R" initials are of the military inspector at the Ames plant, Daniel Reynolds. Side 2: Ames Mfg Co./Chicopee/Mass Specifications: Total knife length (without scabbard): 43 cm Blade length: 30.8 cm Hilt: 12 cm Total knife with scabbard: 44.5 cm

A unique and mesmerizing piece of old world craftsmanship at its best.  This singing bird mechanical box is made by MMM (Mechanische Musikwerke Manufaktur) of Triberg Germany, the company that purchased the Karl Griesbaum company that specialized in these items from 1905-1980.  MMM continues to make the singing bird boxes with the same tools and techniques since 1990.  The box is made of plated silver or alpaca silver (nickel silver). The mechanism of this singing bird music box is all made by hand and is completely mechanical without any use of speakers or electronics.  Comes with the wooden box case. DO NOT FORCE THE LID TO OPEN OR CLOSE.  IF YOU MOVE THE BUTTON AND NOTHING HAPPENS OR IT STOPS IN THE MIDDLE IT NEEDS TO BE WINDED UP WITH THE KEY.
