Charleston Rice History Commemorative Plaque

This plaque commemorates the first successful rice planting in the Charleston South Carolina colony in the 1670’s starting the rice growing culture of the South known as Madagascar gold.  The plaque was approved by the Historic Commission of Charleston South Carolina.  The plaque is attached to a thick slice of an olive tree trunk.

This U.S.S. Maine Memorial Brass Plaque commemorates the explosion and sinking of the ship in Havana harbor, Cuba, at 9:40 on the evening of February 15, 1898 causing the deaths of 250 out of 355 sailors on board.  It is this incident that triggered the Spanish-American war that spread from the Caribbean to the Philippines ending up in American dominance over those regions. Or best offer This is a piece of Alan Shepard memorabilia that has not been seen for decades.  It is probably a one of a kind plaque commissioned and presented to astronaut and naval pilot Alan Shepard Jr. for his amazing accomplishment of being the first American and the second human after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagerin to orbit the earth.  On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Mercury-Redstone 3 mission and named his spacecraft, Mercury Spacecraft 7, Freedom 7. As a show of appreciation and admiration for his incredible achievement in the height of the Cold War and the start of the space race, the American Legion decided to present Alan Shepard with this plaque as an award. The Dahlgren bowie knife bayonet is a Civil War era Union US Navy bayonet designed by Admiral John Dahlgren for use with the Plymouth/Whitneyville Model M1861 Rifle, and made by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee Massachusetts.  The Dahlgren Bowie bayonet's new design's intention was to replace the then-standard sword length bayonet with a more maneuverable bayonet for Navy purposes such as close quarters combat in ships, boarding actions, shore landings, and others and for use as either a traditional bayonet or a hand held edged weapon bulky enough to defend against swords and the heavy rifles used at the time. This Dahlgren Navy bowie bayonet is one of only 1800 produced between 1861-1864, and this item is marked as produced in 1862. Comes with an unoriginal scabbard. Markings: On ricasso: Side 1: USN D.R 1862. "D.R" initials are of the military inspector at the Ames plant, Daniel Reynolds. British 21st Army Group Headquarters WW2 Commemorative Plaque presented to Colonel James (Joe) Oliver Ewart by Field Marshal Sir Bernard Law Montgomery for his role in the negotiations for the surrender of the German high command in North West Germany, Holland and Denmark. Colonel James Oliver Ewart (3 April 1917 – 1 July 1945) served towards the end of World War 2 in the British Intelligence Corps and finished his service as the second most senior intelligence staff officer in Field Marshal Montgomery's 21st Army Group during the liberation of Europe; and he would be one of the key staff at the surrender of German forces to Montgomery on 4 May 1945 on Lüneburg Heath.  Ewart died on duty of injuries he received in a road traffic accident on 1 July 1945, near the town of Melle, Germany. The plaque consists of emblems of the British 21 Army Group Headquarters, British First Army and British Second Army. This special historic plaque commemorates the role of Colonel Ewart in the surrender of the German High Command. It is most likely a one-of-a-kind piece. A unique and mesmerizing piece of old world craftsmanship at its best.  This singing bird mechanical box is made by MMM (Mechanische Musikwerke Manufaktur) of Triberg Germany, the company that purchased the Karl Griesbaum company that specialized in these items from 1905-1980.  MMM continues to make the singing bird boxes with the same tools and techniques since 1990.  The box is made of plated silver or alpaca silver (nickel silver). The mechanism of this singing bird music box is all made by hand and is completely mechanical without any use of speakers or electronics.  Comes with the wooden box case. DO NOT FORCE THE LID TO OPEN OR CLOSE.  IF YOU MOVE THE BUTTON AND NOTHING HAPPENS OR IT STOPS IN THE MIDDLE IT NEEDS TO BE WINDED UP WITH THE KEY. Antique Book – Institutiones Geometricae By Albrecht Durer

An antique and rare book by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) named  Institutiones geometricae, a landmark study on the theory of art, introducing the "Art of Measurement" to a northern Europe audience from Italy during the Renaissance.  Dürer explains the application of practical geometry to drawings and paintings and to be applied to architecture, painting and print by designing both gothic and roman letters as well as ornamental forms in general.  Durer's monumental work was addressed not only to artists but also to sculptors, architects, goldsmiths, stonemasons and other craftsmen. The work was first published in German Underweysung der Messung, Nuremberg, 1525. This book was published a few years after the original edition and is signed 1538. The pages and inserts are all in very good condition.  The binding is from the early 19th century and is in poor condition. For these reasons this antique and rare book are in the affordable price offered.
