Charleston Rice History Commemorative Plaque

This plaque commemorates the first successful rice planting in the Charleston South Carolina colony in the 1670’s starting the rice growing culture of the South known as Madagascar gold.  The plaque was approved by the Historic Commission of Charleston South Carolina.  The plaque is attached to a thick slice of an olive tree trunk.

This U.S.S. Maine Memorial Brass Plaque commemorates the explosion and sinking of the ship in Havana harbor, Cuba, at 9:40 on the evening of February 15, 1898 causing the deaths of 250 out of 355 sailors on board.  It is this incident that triggered the Spanish-American war that spread from the Caribbean to the Philippines ending up in American dominance over those regions. Or best offer This is a piece of Alan Shepard memorabilia that has not been seen for decades.  It is probably a one of a kind plaque commissioned and presented to astronaut and naval pilot Alan Shepard Jr. for his amazing accomplishment of being the first American and the second human after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagerin to orbit the earth.  On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Mercury-Redstone 3 mission and named his spacecraft, Mercury Spacecraft 7, Freedom 7. As a show of appreciation and admiration for his incredible achievement in the height of the Cold War and the start of the space race, the American Legion decided to present Alan Shepard with this plaque as an award. An antique and rare book by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) named  Institutiones geometricae, a landmark study on the theory of art, introducing the "Art of Measurement" to a northern Europe audience from Italy during the Renaissance.  Dürer explains the application of practical geometry to drawings and paintings and to be applied to architecture, painting and print by designing both gothic and roman letters as well as ornamental forms in general.  Durer's monumental work was addressed not only to artists but also to sculptors, architects, goldsmiths, stonemasons and other craftsmen. The work was first published in German Underweysung der Messung, Nuremberg, 1525. This book was published a few years after the original edition and is signed 1538. The pages and inserts are all in very good condition.  The binding is from the early 19th century and is in poor condition. For these reasons this antique and rare book are in the affordable price offered.

A unique collectible from the Victorian era in England.  This is an Elliot Brothers charting instruments set in a mahogany wood box which belonged to G.B. Chalon.  His name appears on a small plaque on the box and on some of the instruments inside.  The instrument set which was used either for nautical map charting, mathematics or engineering drawing includes what we think are all of the original items with a lift out tray.  This charting set includes ivory handles on some of the instruments especially the protractor (ruler) which is all in ivory.  The ivory protractor, marked: Elliot 449 Strand London, is therefore presumably made after the company moved to their Strand St. location in about 1867.  The two slots in the protractor were for a ribbon so that the naval officer or other user could wear it round his neck. This is a fantastic antique Victorian era collectible for those who love scientific or nautical/naval/maritime items. Dimension: 19 cm x 9.5 cm (7.48 inches x 3.74 inches)

Israeli Lee Enfield long branch No.4 MK1 T rifle scope made by Goldberg of Tel-Aviv.  This is one of the first prototypes of Israeli made rifle scope made in the late 1940's and early 1950's as Israel planned to self rely on as much weapons and weapon related material as possible and in addition smuggle and later import military surplus firearms from post WW2 Europe.  This Israeli rifle scope is made of brass and includes the original rifle mount.  The outside of the scope has patches of scratched paint, the lenses are in tact and a bit foggy and the reticle is in tact as well.  A rare and unique piece of history.
