Indian Madu Shields Set with Horns and Decorative Colorful Bucklers

Indian Madu shields set with horns and decorative colorful bucklers.  These Madu were used defensively by Fakirs and Mendicants who were generally not allowed to carry traditional weapons.  The shields, also known as Dhal, are intricately decorated and painted with a distinct four steel discs in the center of the shield.  In the back the shield is fitted with woven straps covered in red cloth. These Madu Dhal shields with Indian deer horns were probably made in the late 19th to early 20th century.
