We currently have a very nice collection of antique bronze trays, plates and centerpieces, all are hand made and showing the intricate work and mastery of producing such items. We often have bronze and copper items featured in our website because we simply love their look and feel and are always amazed at the variety of items craftsman have made out of this material throughout the ages. These decorative antique items were made as gifts to rulers or leaders or as ornamental items in later ages when these items were more affordable.
In history the beginning of the Bronze Age was in India and western Eurasia and is usually dated from the mid 4000 BC to the early 2000 BC in China. The Iron age came after the bronze age starting at around 1300 BC reaching most of Eurasia and bronze was still widely used. Bronze is an alloy consisting mainly of copper, commonly with about 12% tin and often with the addition of other metals (such as nickel, zinc, aluminium, or manganese) and sometimes non-metals or metalloids such as arsenic, phosphorus or silicon. These additions produce a range of alloys that may be harder than copper alone, or have other useful properties, such as hardness, ductility, or machinability in more modern times. It is these characteristics that have made bronze such a popular material for sculptures, jewelry, decorations and more.
Currently we can offer beautifully made antique bronze trays featuring very intricate craftsmanship displaying mythological creatures and gods in various parties dancing with each other. The same mythological theme can be seen also in an antique copper plate that we have for sale. One of my favorite items that we have for sale is a handmade Turkish Ottoman bronze plate or tray with silver inlay of writing in Arabic which are probably verses from the Koran. This antique Ottoman bronze tray is an exquisite example of the craftsmanship available in the Ottoman empire that ruled most of the Middle East and parts of the Balkans for a few centuries.
Bronze was used in later periods such as the French Neo Renaissance style also referred to as the Renaissance Revival style. This style was popular in the 19th century in mostly western Europe and was characterized by its influence of Greek, Gothic, classic Italian styles and baroque especially during the second Napoleonic empire of Napoleon the 3rd. We have available a very nice representation of this periodic style in this French Neo Renaissance Centerpiece made of bronze with golden gild and featuring a mythological them on the plate itself flowing on to its stand and base.
